Wittedrift AH at a glance

For nature lovers and outdoor activists, the quaint village of Wittedrift and its surrounds have much to offer.

Set in a beautiful valley on the banks of the Bitou River, you are surrounded by wetland, forest and fynbos: a paradise for birds as well as wildlife such as buck, mongoose and tortoise.

There is a plethora of outdoor activities.

Birders love the annual bird festival when guides share their knowledge of the whereabouts of the many species seen here.

Sporting activities include MTB, running and horse riding trails, while the river is perfect for canoeing and paddle boarding, as well as fishing.

Giraffe View and Plettenberg Bay Game Reserves offer game walks and drives.

Pretty country lanes entice you to walk and exercise your dog.

This little village with its small population boasts four shops, including the Wittedrift Butchery, famous for its delicious free range meats, biltong and boerewors.

Dwellings range from neat apartments and cottages to larger family homes, while radiating out from the village are farms, many of which have been subdivided into smaller properties, attracting people who are drawn to make their living from market gardening, forestry, fishing or eco-tourism.

For such a small village Wittedrift is well endowed with a primary and a high school, a community hall and a church.

A huge boon for families is that children can safely play in the street, having fun on their bikes and skateboards, and feeling they belong in this friendly community. A strong neighbourhood watch group and a vivacious chat group make a huge contribution towards making people feel at home, safe, and with true neighbours looking out for each other.

Being 5.5 km from the N2 highway makes for a quiet, unpolluted environment, and yet it is only a twelve minute drive to the vibrant town of Plettenberg Bay.
